Artificial Pancreas
Researchers are coming closer to developing an “artificial pancreas,” a long-sought system of insulin pumps and glucose sensors that provide insulin to diabetics, mimicking the functionality of the genuine pancreas.
The devices happen to be in improvement for greater than 3 decades, but lawmakers and diabetes advocates are ramping up the pressure and U.S. regulators this week outlined a regulatory path for the preliminary version in the device.
And although a seamless device that tracks a diabetic’s blood sugar and automatically administers the correct dose of insulin is still a long time from commercial use, outcomes of many studies becoming presented this week at the American Diabetes Association meeting in San Diego show true promise.
