Mother’s Day was not invented by marketing experts to help people buy things and the economy. We have developed a real object of women’s honor. It goes all the way back to Greek and Roman times, when they celebrated the honor and goddesses, some days of the year. And other countries and people have always found a way to celebrate mothers. Julia Ward Howe, the woman who wrote the Battle Hymn of the Republic proposed in 1872. Julia was an activist, writer and poet.
